Don’t Panic (1987) is a horror film written and directed by Rubén Galindo Jr. Starring John Michael Bischof as Michael, it follows the travails of a hapless high schooler in Mexico as he attempts to impress a girl and outrun a homicidal maniac who used to be one of his best buddies.
Michael’s school friends bring him a ouija board on his 17th birthday. His friend who leads the seance is possessed by a demon and sets out on a killing spree, which Michael fights like hell to stop. It’s silly and the characters make many questionable choices, which is really what I want in an ‘80s slasher film.
This movie might not be “good” by many standards, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun. Everyone seems to be giving it their all, and I enjoyed watching the senseless cheesiness unfold.
Be on the lookout for an adult-sized pair of dinosaur pajamas, too!
